May 20,2010: An effort to plug the ruptured oil well that is spewing oil into the Gulf of Mexico may halt the leak when oil giant BP tries it Sunday, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Thursday.
"Everything is being done to make sure that happens," Salazar said Thursday on CNN's "American Morning."
"We have the best scientists in the world who are overseeing what is going on. So, we are hopeful that it will happen soon," Salazar said.
May 20, 2010: BP took steps toward attempting to cap its leaking well in the Gulf of Mexico yesterday as it increased the amount of crude it’s capturing and thick oil began to appear in Louisiana’s wetlands.
BP will try as early as May 23 to inject heavy drilling fluids and cement into the well to seal it, a tactic known as “top kill,” Doug Suttles, chief operating officer of exploration and production for the company, said on a conference call with reporters yesterday.
Good news finally comes from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill as BP has successfully siphoned oils from a well 50 miles off the Louisana coast. BP officials have tried three times to siphon and contain the enviromental nightmare as sea turtle, tar balls, and dolphins began washing ashore. According to AOL news, the company [BP] has inserted a "riser insertion tube" into the leaking pipe, and the flow of oil, gas and water is being funneled from the lead through a mile long pipe up to the water's surface.
BP PLC expected a mile-long tube to start siphoning oil from its blown-out well in the Gulf of Mexico by Saturday night May 15th) after a setback. If successful, the deepsea experiment would reduce but not end a spill that's spewed millions of gallons of crude.

The generic drug dichloroacetate, or DCA, warrants more research as a potential therapy for a deadly form of brain cancer, according to a small Canadian study with unconventional funding.
The study published in Wednesday's online issue of the journal Science Translational Medicine showed tumours responded to DCA by changing their metabolism. The drug worked against tumour tissues from five patients with terminal brain cancer as predicted by test-tube experiments first reported on in 2007.
