MS Study Hopes for Breakthrough
Findings are expected before the end of the 2 year funding period so by July 1st 2012 we should know whether research will be taken to the next level for the Dr. Zamboni hypothesis.
Dr. Katherine Knox says the study being conducted at the University of Saskatchewan, in conjunction with the University of British Columbia, is unlike any other MS research.
The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada chose the U of S and UBC to receive funding for the coordinated 2 year study. Dr. Knox says they will be using catheter venography which is the most comprehensive diagnostic imaging tool to assess a syndrome known as CCSVI or a narrowing of the veins in the neck and whether it has a role in MS.
Dr. Knox says depending on the results of this study, and whether their results supports moving forward, they can proceed as quickly as possible to another study which would actually employ the treatment suggested by Dr. Zamboni.
