Antipsychotic drugs: poor kids 4 times more likely to be prescribed

Many at-risk kids are on drugs and I am not talking about illicit ones.

Common antipsychotic drugs are being over prescribed to our nations low income kids. A recent study found that low income kids on Medicare were 4 times more likely to have powerful antipsychotics prescribed to them.

According to a recent New York Times article, children covered by Medicaid are given powerful antipsychotic medicines at a rate four times higher than children whose parents have private insurance. And the Medicaid children are more likely to receive the drugs for less severe conditions than their middle-class counterparts, the data shows. Read More....
